The owner's word

• « Gavroche » is a One Off, designed for us in 1980/81. The naval architect is Jan-Willem Kesteloo, (Delft University/ Prof. Gerritsma), the boat was built by Kesteloo aluminium yachtbuilders at Brouwershaven. Our request to Jan-Wilem was to design a true sailingboat that could comfortably be sailed by us two. The boat should have nice and proper lines, a strong hull, not a voluminous stern, a fast passage maker. We wanted a dry deck when sailing for most of the time.
• Only in rainy weather and when moored we use the sprayhood. The interior was drawn only after the hull was completely designed. We wanted a safe galley with good working areas, a full size chart table with a drawer for unfolded Adm.Charts,etc. We are very happy with the final result. « Gavroche » was launched and officially registered in Holland in 1982. Oiginally we sailed with a light genoa or the cutter rig with yankee and staysail. Later on (1988) a Harken roller reefing was installed. The staysail is hanked on but we mainly sail with the 145% North furling genoa (55 sq.m., new 2010) with rope luff. Hull and deck are in aluminium. The stern was reinforced to carry a windvane steering. Forward of the mast is an aluminium bulkhead with watertight door. Inside the total hull is foam sprayed for insulation. (except for a smaller part under the waterline) The interior is in mahogany.
