The owner's word

  • I ordered Avel Biz from Pogo Structures, making the choice of a ‘cruising version’ delivered with an oven and pressurized hot water. I’d asked Christian Bouroullec for a sailing boat that would allow me to sail across the Atlantic with my youngest son (I had already done this with the two eldest) as well as to be able to stay at the port of Sauzon so that my wife could paint aquarelles. Finally, I have the support of the twin keel in the sandwich, but I did not fix the hinges for security reasons, hence, I’m not tempted to beach. To be noted, I also have the reinforcement of the four lifting points as well as having adapted lifting straps. I added several improvements. Fiddles and storage space (particularly in the aft cabins, built by the carpenters in the boatyard in Combrit lent to us by Christian), improved bow roller allowing smoother berths, windlass, large cockpit sprayhood, stiff water reservoir as opposed the soft one that needs to be changed every year, improved lightning, roof protection. I participated in the ARC twice, in a ‘Club Racing’ spirit and did one return across the Atlantic. Very fond memories. The new flat set of sails have only been used for the crossing in 2017. The rest of the time the initial set of sails are used. I have also made several cruises in Southern Brittany and the Golfe. The lifting keel and the simple adjustments of the sails have allowed me to introduce my loved ones to easy speed. I’m changing boats for several reasons. The first is that I’m a grand-father and I’m going to go back to sailing a dinghy. The second is that an old friend has asked me to join him for a project of itinerant sailing across the Mediterranean which my wife would like.
