The owner's word

  • In 2010, we were preparing our retirement project. Owner’s of a Dufour 40 we were looking for a boat that would be suited for a round trip. We were looking for our ideal boat: an Allures 44 that had already sailed and was ready for off shore navigation… We discovered ACQUADORIA that was built in 2008 and fitted with a maximum of quality options. Antoine, her owner had enjoyed two sabbatical years sailing around the Mediterranean and across the Atlantic to Salvador de Bahia and return to Rabat via Cuba in June 2010. We purchased ACQUADORIA (named after the Corsican village where Antoine was born) in 2011. We transported the boat in May from Rabat to Baiona in Spain and then end of August from Baiona to Port Haliguen, her new home port. In April 2012 it was time for our retirement! We prepared the boat on the boat yard in Arzal before sailing to England and Ireland to test the boat and the equipment. On September 11, 2012 we cast off and began our sail down south, Spain, Portugal, Madeira, Canary Islands, Cape Verde Islands… then we sailed across the Atlantic to Salavador de Bahia in Brazil that we reached mid-December. For 7 years, we took the time to discover Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina and then Chile where we spent 2 seasons sailing in the Patagonian canals. Then, the inevitable passage of Cap Horn and a detour via the Falklands and we started to head home. End 2019, we were leaving North East Brazil to sail to Tobago and Trinidad via Guyana. In April 2020 we were in Martinique for the lockdown. We could not guarantee the protection of the boat against the cyclonic risks, so we decided to send our boat back to France by cargo. Unfortunately, we put an end to our journey two years earlier than we had planned. We have been sailing for 6 months (from mid-January to mid-April then mid-September to mid-December) and staying in France for 6 months every year. The choice of our Allures 44 was essential for the success of our project. In all the conditions that we’ve had we could appreciate her qualities: security, comfort and autonomy.
