The owner's word

  • For our cruise around the Atlantic, we were looking for a boat that was in good condition, well equipped and comfortable for sailing and life onboard for a family. We really liked the RM1200 for her luminosity, space and storage, her simple and robust solutions as well as her versatility during navigation. We bought Penn Gwen as she was coming back from a first cruise across the Atlantic. During year after we bought her, we prepared and completed the equipment (in particular with a hydrogenator) for our journey. We left in 2016 for a two-year long journey down to Senegal, Brazil and the Bahamas. On the technical level we are very happy as we never had any serious problems. This allowed us to fully enjoy our journey and to serenely consider our first long sails and head for destinations that did not have any nautical infrastructures. During navigation, we appreciated the short keel and beaching possibilities that allowed us to explore the rivers in Senegal and Brazil. The boat is efficient, downwind of course, as well as upwind, where she exceeds most ‘travel boats’, and with little wind which also means a lesser use of the engine and allows for more weather forecast options. As we have come back to our lives on land since last summer and unfortunately do not have the project for a new journey in the coming years, we wish that Penn Gwen sails away without us towards new horizons and hope that she will bring much joy to her new owners.
